I opened up my own store which specializes in crocheted goods (obviously). Purses, stuffed animals, whatever I feel like. I'm hoping to sell a bit to give me some spending cash during school in the fall that I won't have otherwise.
And if you find something on etsy that you like. Spread the word. The more, the merrier.
The sun finally came out today. The perfect day to list these new bright and cherry lime slippers. I got the yarn yesterday at Hobby Lobby (yes, I gave in to the major yarn sale). I have to say, these are some of my favorite slippers I have ever made.Today before class I was crocheting my next pair and got a lot of questions about it. And did I have a business card on me? Of course not. This one girl who also crochets was asking me how much I make on each slipper and how often they sell, etc. It was kind of nice since I hadn't met another person on campus who crocheted. Well, not counting the boy I taught to crochet one day school was chancelled and my friend Cami who took up crochet from her friend because of my slippers.
I've been able to pimp myself a lot at school lately. I'll be forever known as the Slipper Girl. Could be worse...
School's been hectic. I guess I'm just trying to fall into a flow of class, work, life and trying to figure it all out and when I'll have time for it all. All my classes seem for the most part interesting this semester if not challenging. I have a feeling it'll be a long semester, but hopefully a tolerable one. And hopefully my last one at this school. I'm planning on transferring to the main A&M campus in College Station because I just don't feel I belong here. I want to do marine biology with my life, but I want to do it at a place I feel comfortable and in a fun environment. And I'm not finding that here. So there's that. This pair of slippers, to roughly change the subject, is the first in my Spring Line. I designed them to be light enough for spring days while still maintaining a certain amount of warmth and coziness for the cooler nights and mornings. They are made with a blend of wool, cotton, and synthetics so they also retain their durability. Hopefully they'll prove to be another successful slipper design. I have a second pair in the makings that are a beautiful robin blue and white.
I'm trying really hard not to buy any more yarn right now. I can't afford it, to be honest. And yet, what week does Hobby Lobby decide to put their Yarn Bee brand 50% off and my slipper staple of Red Heart Super Saver on sale for $1.99? That's right, this week. It's a good thing the closest Hobby Lobby is 30 minutes away for the temptation is strong.
Today in the student center there was a sign for 'Ninja Club'. This made me ponder what exactly 'Ninja Club' was. But more importantly, is there a 'Pirate Club' they do battle with? This new pair of slippers marks the beginning of the Slipper War. Join my revolution - spread the word. Do not give in to the dark side (and I'm not talking of knitters).

The crafting world introduces you to interesting people. Some are great and I feel very grateful to have met, but others, well, there are bound to be others aren't there? People always say that imitation is the highest form of flattery. Well, what would you call it if someone accused you of copying and then proceed to copy your unique ideas? That, to me, is nothing but hypocrasy and insecurity. And irritating.
I suppose there's nothing to do. Just needed to vent a bit.
It seems a lot of people on etsy are dealing with "flattery" at the moment. Just part of the experience, I suppose.
In good news (hah! good ... sure) I made it to school safely. The first couple of days have been uneventful. I'm mostly looking forward to the week being over so I can head to College Station and satisfy my Wii addiction at Andy's apartment. And of course, see him.
The countdown for summer has begun.

Everyone seems to be in Valentine's mode on etsy already. So I decided to join in. I must give credit for the idea for these slippers to Jenn (who makes amazing ducky soap). I ran out of black yarn, so when I get more there will be a black pair with red hearts to join these. I was also thinking of maybe hot pink with black hearts - yes/no? The post office here seems out to get me. First my packages get stuck in the drop off and completely squished and now they can't take credit or debit cards. Don't get me wrong, I love having a reason to go to the post office - I just hate when it becomes a more of a chore than a privledge. And I'd like it if my product didn't get destroyed in the package slot. Good thing slippies are soft and not breakable.
I need to start packing the yarn for the great trip back to Galveston. I made the boyfriend bring an ultra big suitcase so we could fit all
Do you hear it? It's the hush before the first sale of the new year. I hope you all had a good one (New Year, that is).

It has been so cold here lately (global warming, what?) so I've mostly been inside becoming what my parents like to call "a mouse potato". Laptop on lap, remote in hand. I tell them I'm also making a living, albeit a meager one.

I also redid the myspace - finally. So if you have one, add me! Because it's all pretty now, for the most part. And one always needs more myspace friends.

I got asked to sell my slippers through an online boutique, and today, my page was up and running. To which I exclaimed to my parents, "Look, I'm practically famous."
Alright, so maybe not so much famous, but it still does feel pretty darn good to have someone like my goods enough want to distribute them. I hoping it goes well. A nice way to start off the new year.
You can see my seller page here or just check out the whole site: The Great Green Room.
And Happy New Year everyone!
eta: And now this. Hopefully it's a sign that it'll be a great year.

My first truly crafty entry and my newest pair of mary jane slippers - which could possibly be my favorite that I've made so far. I deemed them "classic" because of their black and white blend of color, and yet, they hold a secret: a tiny bit of glam in the form of silver threads mixed in with the yarn. I couldn't find a way to truly capture the metalic sparkle of the thread, so you'll just have to take my word for it. And, of course, they are furry. So, I love them. Hopefully someone else will love them $16 worth.
I know there are probably very few yarnies on my friends list at the moment, but a warning to all of you out there - HOBBY LOBBY IS HAVING A MASSIVE YARN SALE! I mean, massive. I bought about $60 of yarn for $2.99 a skein when they were originally $7.00 and up, at least. I have no idea how I'm getting all this yarn back to school. I'm sure it'll be a sight to see tiny me lugging three boxes of yarn through the airport. It'll be worth it.
Upcoming projects:
- crochet purse (waiting on the handle to arrive)
- poncho
- brown and pink varigated slippers (size yet to be determined)

Hi all.
Well, I'm back, and I'm going to be doing a complete overhaul of my livejournal to make all my previous posts private and just dedicate this journal to crafting mostly. I'd like to believe that all of you would simply be delighted in my craft posts, but I know that's not the truth, so I'm giving you a heads up so you can remove me from your friends lists if you desire to do so. This journal will probably mostly be dedicated to posts of new items for my etsy store, suggestions for new items or colors, and just crazy crafting/selling/promoting stuff that happens to me.
I'd truly love to keep all my old lj friends around, but I promise I won't be upset or offended if you take me off your friends list. If you keep me around though, thanks a ton. I'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions and constructive criticisms for my items, and of course, just to talk with you all - that's the best thing about lj.
So just a heads up that things are changing.
Oh, and a question, does anyone use that new Gizmo/LJ Talk thing?
